Meet Al Fulmer...
Al Fulmer is one of InterMedical Hospital's favorite success stories. Al entered IMH's care on a ventilator after a 21-day induced coma. His road to recovery was not easy. However, with his dedication and IMH staff support, Al recovered. Al now gives back to IMH by coming by and sharing words of encouragement with patients and by volunteering. He is a walking testament to the value of LTACH (Long-Term Acute Care Hospital) care. |
Meet Dr. Dan Love...
Dr. Love is a pulmonologist who has worked in the Midlands for more than 30 years. He’s extremely knowledgeable regarding the Pulmonary and Cardiac Systems. IMH is the only specialized mechanical ventilator weaning facility in the Midlands and one of five throughout South Carolina. Our pulmonary program is designed to assist patients requiring extended time to wean from artificial support and to manage the care of downsizing the tracheotomy tubes. Its greatest goal is to promote freedom from all respiratory support. The Complex Wound Program will concentrate on eliminating infection, promoting healing, and assisting closure. Closure may be accomplished by applying a wound vacuumed-assisted closure (V.A.C.) system or with surgical intervention using a donor tissue site. The Medically Complex Program is intended to deal with multiple body systems, such as a patient who requires intravenous infusions of antibiotics along with cardiac monitoring. Enormous emphasis is placed on physical rehabilitation, nutrition, and electrolyte management to promote holistic care. Our main objective is to achieve the patient’s optimal level of independence. |
Meet Armando Colombo...
Armando Colombo is the president & CEO, of InterMedical Hospital of South Carolina. Welcome. Our facility is a 35-bed long-term acute care hospital located in Columbia, South Carolina. Operating since 1998, IMH is the Midlands’s only LTACH. Our goal is to provide extended long-term acute care for patients still needing acute services requiring an average stay of 25 days We are different from other hospitals because we’re small and provide specialized care and attention. Three programs drive our care. Complex Wound Care includes wound v.a.c. therapy, surgical debridement, and other wound care, as well as specialty beds and specialized equipment. Medically Complex Services encompass multi-system issues, dialysis, and long-term IV antibiotics. Our largest program, Pulmonary, includes mechanical ventilator weaning, tracheostomy care, and pulmonary rehabilitation. We enhance all three of these programs with our Physical Rehabilitation Program, which includes physical therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy that we provide six days a week at InterMedical. Our goal is to get our patients back to where they came from—back to home, back to their family, back to their lives. |
